Youth Religious Education
We welcome and celebrate our childrens' various cultures, races, families, genders, abilities, and sexual orientations. Guided by our Seven Principles, we of all ages seek a spiritual home where we can share without being judged or ridiculed; where we can feel accepted for who we are and be encouraged to grow and learn and explore our spirituality while helping others do the same.
The UUCOV Youth Religious Education program provides experiences to enable our young people to develop their own religious philosophy and approach to life in the context of a Unitarian Universalist religious community. We honor the world's great religions and expose our youth to their basic teachings. We teach the principles of peace, justice and kindness, the underlying principles of all the world's religions and show how these principles can be practiced in everyday living.
Theme for 2010-2011: Our Community and Our Roots
Students will begin by exploring their own family and then expand to include other members of the congregation. From this may evolve an exploration of the universal needs of people and different approaches to addressing them. Nature and the earth will be a continuous thread throughout the year. Upon completion of the year, students will have created their own family tree, a child's version of the congregational bio-book and a log of their observances of nature.
Start Date: September 26, 2010
Time: Sundays, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Location: Begins in the Sanctuary, then moves to Waters Hall after the story for all ages.
Childcare for our younger children, ages 0-4, is available during the service. Pre-school aged children will have a special Nature Class once a month (see calendar).
Visitors and volunteers are always welcome. It is an opportunity for adults to read a story, sing a song, share a craft, or just be an interested guest at their table. The children love the attention, and the adults in charge welcome the support.

Summer Environmental Education!
Even though our 2009/2010 Youth Religious Education Year is now over, there are still things planned for this summer. (And just wait to see what we have planned for the fall!)
Youth Religious Education and Adult Exploration (AE) have joined forces for three, all church, all age Environmental Education programs this summer.
The first is a nature walk at Oscar Scherer Park on June 12. We will also be going sailing and watching the fireworks from the Gulf on July 4. We will have an astronomical event in August.
More information is listed in the AE Summer Activities. Please come and join us for these fun and educational experiences!
