Robert Schenkkan wrote “Building The Wall” in 2017 inspired by the heated discussions around border security and immigration. This two-character drama, set in 2019, combines historical facts with fiction to explore a crisis at a private prison for deportees. Described as “speculative history,” Schenkkan characterizes it as “a thriller, a whodunit, and a why-dunit,” delving into themes of personal responsibility and change. Nine years later, the play remains relevant to the ongoing issues surrounding private prison camps in America. (The 90-minute play is performed without intermission.)
