Our Minister
I’m Reverend Amy Petrie Shaw, and I will be serving as your interim minister.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and hearing what you have to share about yourself, your journey, and your amazing congregation.
Born in Kentucky, I spent most of my early working life as a nurse, nurse executive, administrator, and educator. My BA is in English Literature, and I earned a Master of Divinity summa cum laude from Meadville Lombard Theological School in 2013.
I began my ministry as a contract minister at St. John’s UU Church in Cincinnati, OH, served six years as the settled minister at Lake Country UU Church in Heartland, WI, and three years as the settled Senior minister at the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines, IA. I also serve our UUA as a Regional Transitions Specialist, helping Search Committees prepare to do the work of finding a new minister, so I’m excited to get to be on this side of the process for a change!
My beloved friend Nancy and I are looking for a house now and will be in Venice somewhere around the last week of July, bringing with us four cats, way too many books, Nancy’s electric piano, an abundance of art supplies, and a towering stack of computer equipment. Our beloved friend Doug will be joining us from time to time; if you hear a banjo, bass, tuba, or guitar, Doug is around somewhere!
My pronouns are usually they/them, but I also answer to she.
When I’m not busy being a minister, you’ll find me painting or writing, and occasionally forgetting and drinking the paint water instead of my decaf.
Please feel free to go to http://revamyshaw.weebly.com/ to learn more about me as a minister, or to https://www.apshawcollections.com/ to see some of my work as the artist aps.
I can’t wait to get to know you.
Warmly,
Rev. Amy
