Words To Ponder

From the Sunday Service,
July 2, 2023

"I am a Patriot"

Sing "America", but do not ignore our faults and our flaws. Our Country, Tis of Thee, with all of your rights and all of your wrongs. Be proud of our country and critique her every day. Do the intersectional work of justice and know that it is the purest form of patriotism.

We are not alone and that is truly beautiful. May we and every nation join together in one world, dedicated to peace, justice, equity, and beauty. But it is going to take human hands to do this work, and those hands are your hands. Those hands are Republican and Democrat, Socialist, and Independent, and Green.

Those hands are all of us, together, not nationalists isolated behind a wall, but patriots, proud of our country, and determined to make her shine. Let freedom ring.

Reverend Amy Petrie Shaw
